Once you go green you'll never burn paraffin again!
What are Willow Tree candles made of?
Willow Tree candles are made from a unique natural blending of soy wax, which is hydrogenated soybean oil and formulated with a vegetable blending to create the most beautiful, natural, clean burning candle available on the market today.
Our natural wax, exclusively formulated by Doug Spicer, is the only one of it's kind.  No palm is used in our wax.  Purely vegetable soybean.
Willow Tree 100% vegetable soybean candles are a less expensive alternative to beeswax and with the growing demand for natural wax candles, soy candles are becoming a popular, healthy choice.
Available unscented or mixed with plant based aromas to produce quality, scented soy candles.
No UV Inhibitors are used in Willow Tree candles and should be kept away from direct sunlight to avoid fading and discoloring.

same result as beeswax, is cost effective and is made from a renewable source.

No harsh chemicals.  Willow Tree's exclusive wax formula brings you superior
quality candles,
offering long burn times and excellent value.
Each product receives personal attention and care.
The products made of 100% natural, petrochemical free ingredients.

What makes soy a better choice?
Soy wax is all natural.  It is a favorite of environmentally conscious people because
it is not made from petroleum, like paraffin candles.  Burning of soy candles does
not increase the CO2 level in the atmosphere.

Do soy candles last longer?
Yes.  Soy candles last up to 50% longer than paraffin candles.
Willow Tree votives burn approximately 20 hours each in a standard votive container as shown on our votive page.  As soy candles burn much longer than paraffin, those who like to burn their candles only 1 - 2 hours at a time, should choose votive or tea-lite candles.

Why are Willow Tree products so affordable?
We use the best ingredients sourced from around the globe but it is our preference
to keep our prices at a level that is affordable for all.   Although our bottling and packaging is very classic and displays well, we avoid the use costly additional packaging for our products, such as boxes that are discarded when the products
are opened, adding to our landfills.

Do soy candles burn differently from paraffin?
Yes, a little.  Soywax is a solidified vegetable oil rather than a petroleum products which acts much like plastic.  Pushing in the sides of a soy candle does not apply here as the walls will break. Soy wax pillar candles stay in their column form and
do not misshape when overheated.
When sweating on the outside of the candle is visible, it is time to blow it out and let cool.   Never trim the wicks, no matter what you have been told before.
As the pillar sweats inside while it burns the walls become thinner and thus, the candle shorter.  If a flower appears at the top of the wick, cool candle and gently
snip it off and discard.

As in any pillar, maintaining a pillar candle is essential.  How many candles have you used over the years, that have been discarded due to improper burn quality or unsightly blow outs?  Here, we offer some valueable information to assist you in receiving the most enjoyment from your natural candle.

Once you become accustomed to burning Willow Tree candles, you will never want to burn another. Vegetable soybean candles are a beautiful alternative
in a changing world.

The wick must stay in the center and not lean off to one side and focus on one wall.  This is critical with any type of candle.  Wicks will lean with the slightest room draft.  This occurs when windows are open, furnaces cutting in and out,  fans are in use and by simply walking past a candle. More people in a room cause constant, changing room drafts.  With maintenance, as
in any pillar, soy candles are beautiful and most enjoyable to use.  Candle burning instructions are included with every order.  Use containers if you are uncomfortable with open candles.

Should you experience a blow out, try to seal the area with your finger to stop the flow.
When cool, relight for 20 minutes to create a wax pool and pour onto a paper towel.  This will create a new core and candle should burn well from this point.  Blow outs generally are the cause of not maintaining the candle to keep the wick centered or simply burning too long.

When burning candles that are not in full view, such as on mantels or in corners (high draft areas) use containers.  It is hard to maintain a candle when you are not able to visibly see how it is burning.  Candles are the most enjoyable, relaxing product when used properly.  Be safe.
Note:  When burning pillar candles in cylinders, it is best to light the candle and burn it for an extended period of time, allowing the candle to break through and fill the container.  It takes time but once filled, the candle will become a level container candle, offering excellent burn hours right to the bottom.  Burning pillar candles
this way offers a convenient and safe alternative to burning open pillars that require constant attention.
Those who don't enjoy maintaining pillar candles are best suited to our cylinder containers. This ensures that all wax is used and offers a beautiful burning candle without worry & frustration.
Candles are designed for enjoyment and relaxation.

Votives are designed to liquefy and should not be burnt without a votive cup.
If you are not burning your candle long enough per burn time, coring will result
and it will be difficult to reach side walls.  Candles will struggle if they core too deeply and oxygen is reduced.  Try pouring a little wax onto a paper towel, creating
a longer wick.  This should help candle to burn harder and thin the side walls.

We offer a full line of containers, votives and tea-lites for low maintenance candle enjoyment.  Soy candles are beautiful to burn.  We feel that eventually, all candles will be natural, contributing to better health and cleaner homes, which is the most important factor in home product usage.

How do I clean up a spilled soy candle?
Soy candle spills are easy to clean.  It's very difficult to remove paraffin wax from furniture or textiles.
Soy wax spills can easily be cleaned up with hot soapy water. Break away cooled
wax from tablecloths and toss the cloth into the clothes washer. It cleans right up.
Let spills cool on tabletops and simply lift off.

Why is my wick not burning well?
Chances are that the candle is dusty.  Try and cool the candle and carefully wipe away residue. Light the candle, tipping it slightly, allowing some liquid wax to be removed.
Let it pour onto a paper towel.  Once a new core is created, the candle should burn
as it should.
Never leave candles sit in the open for extended periods of time as lint and dust
will collect on wick and wax creating a light film causing the candle to struggle.

Remember to burn pillar candles as suggested to receive full burn expectations.
Not burning pillars long enough will cause deep coring, which can cause a lack of oxygen to the wick.  This can also be corrected by tipping the candle and removing some wax,
creating a long wick and harder burn on the walls, thinning the sides.

A good quality candle is an investment and with care it can offer excellent value & enjoyment.

Do soy candles leave soot on walls and furniture?
No.  Black petrol soot comes from petroleum.  No petroleum is used in soy candles.  Petrol soot is extremely difficult to clean and is very unhealthy and should be avoided.  Soy candles help to maintain air quality.  A light soot may come from the cotton wick but is barely evident and is washable.  Black soot that may appear on containers is often the result of butane lighters. Try to use a piece of spaghetti to light tall candles.

Why do my tall cylinders show a black film at times?
This is not petro-soot. The black that can form is the result of soot from the wick when candle dyes are added. This can occur from the candle burning more than 3 hours and the wick has become too long.  Cool the cylinder and wipe the black away with a paper towel.  Trim the wick to 1/4" and begin again.

Do soy candles distribute scent well?
A scented soy candle may seem lighter to the senses at first, but when heated the scent is every bit as strong as any paraffin candle.  Often paraffin candles are dipped in scent and aromas seem stronger at first.  When lit these candles become lighter
as scent is burnt off.  Willow Tree candles are scented in the pouring process and scent lasts until the candle is gone. Soybean oil has a lower melting point than a paraffin candle, thus offering cooler burning candles and faster scent distribution. When extinguished, no kerosene type odors linger.
Upscenting a candle is not recommended as black soot can occur.
We offer a large selection of scent choices.  We can help you choose scents that suit your requirements.  It is often surprising how bold our lighter scents can become when burning, but never to an uncomfortable level as synthetics are not used.
It is a comfort to use quality natural aromas.  There is no conflict in our aromas often causing discomfort to those sensitive to candles.
